Teesside based logistics experts, AV Dawson Limited, recently teamed up with high-speed door specialists EFAFLEX UK as part of their expansion to construct a state of the art, eco- friendly steel store shed. From their 40 acre site, AV Dawson deploy a dynamic road fleet, rail terminals and shipping berths to supply across sector logistics solutions to road transport, rail freight, quayside and warehouse applications. The bulk, bagged, palletized and specialised goods handler were further investing into their facility and wanted to improve and effectively protect the steel stored within the unit and manage the buildings climate control. Having researched the market, Head of Quality, Neil McShane made contact with EFAFLEX and a comprehensive site survey swiftly followed. Door recommendations were made for AV Dawson to not only improve and regulate their stores temperature and humidity but also further enhance the protection and safety of their logistics team too.
Five EFA- SST® high- speed spiral doors were installed in a range of sizes each with class leading door opening speeds of 2.5 metres per second and which are capable of up to 250,000 cycles between routine inspections. AV Dawson selected EFA-CLEAR® laths which allowed for additional natural daylight into the loading hall for improved user comfort and aesthetics. The doors featured as standard the EFA-THERM® insulation laths to provide exceptional heat insulation between 0.66 and 1.52 W/m2K, coupled with the highest wind load capacity to improve the warehouse insulation and lower energy costs.
Our previous doors were considered too slow and far too frail for what we wanted to achieve in this new build, says Head of Quality Neil McShane. He continued, The pre sales experience was informative. We were allowed to visit other client installations to see similar doors in operation which was very useful in helping us deciding to use the EFAFLEX solution. The installation was well managed and trouble free. We are delighted that this solution enables us to protect our clients asset and is seen by our business as reducing our longer term energy costs.
In order to further minimise the risk of accidents in the lower portion of the door, AV Dawson opted to integrate the TüV certified infrared light grid (EFA-TLG®) into the door tracks. This is a unique self-monitoring system, the first of its kind to be incorporated into a high-speed door with the rays detecting even the smallest obstacles to stop the door movement and lessen the likelihood of forklift truck incidents. The doors will be covered by the usual post sales service and maintenance offered by EFAFLEX to ensure their longevity and smooth operation.
